Cocktails in Mexico City

This is Part Two of Five: Cocktails in Mexico City.

I spent ten days in Mexico City in June 2022. It is the largest city in North America; there is enough to do for a whole YEAR, much less in just under ten days (including a dentist visit!). I was working remotely planning a client’s virtual event, but I still managed to fit in plenty of vegan tacos, day adventures, and urban wanders.

Solo traveling for the first half of my trip, I was joined by my best friend Abby for the second part. I wanted to share a collection of my favorite things to do with you, so initially, I had all the vegan food, cocktails, day trips and adventures, and neighborhoods together in one (very) long blog post. But I decided to separate the post into five smaller articles to make it more digestible for you to read (no pun intended). Here is part two of five: the cocktails!

MY TOP THREE FAVORITE COCKTAIL BARS IN MEXICO CITY

Handshake Speakeasy

With innovative cocktails, free bar snacks, and three miniature classic martinis offered at a miniature price while you’re pursuing the full menu, this place is a must-visit for many reasons (not just the adorable mini cocktails).Β Handshake SpeakeasyΒ was rated number 2 onΒ North America’s 50 Best Bars listΒ and was also just ratedΒ the 11th best bar in the WORLD.Β They’re known for their brown butter mushroom old fashioned (you read that right), which isn’t vegan butΒ isΒ gorgeous and β€˜grammable. AndΒ doesΒ have a literal mushroom in the drink. The menu changes seasonally. When I was there in the summer of 2022, I drank a mini vesper (gin, vodka, Lillet) and a Bohemian Rhapsody (Tanqueray dry gin, Kettle One vodka, raspberry, rose, jasmine and prosecco). Stunning.

Reservations are required.

Supra Roma Rooftop

This rooftop bar offers a jaw-dropping view of the sunset in Mexico City. For some reason, Abby and I had a particularly challenging time finding this place! After apparently walking by the entrance a few times, we eventually asked a security guard. He told us to walk up a ramp, and into a parking garage, where we’d find an elevator to take to the top floor. That worked! But it sure felt weird. (Maybe we did this wrong? If you go, comment below on how you actually found your way up to the rooftop!) The drinks and the food are expensive, even by U.S. standards (the cocktails average USD $15 each), but expertly crafted and splurge-worthy. There are several vegan options; the fried olives were a favorite. Go for sunset here at Supra Roma Rooftop — it’s worth it.

LicorerΓa Limantour

This unobtrusive and always-packed bar has mouthwateringly creative cocktails. One of the original craft cocktail bars in Mexico City, LicorerΓa Limantour ranks number 3 in North America and number 4 in the world. Their drinks are offbeat and inviting; the Tommy Tomberry is made with cherry tomato-infused mezcal, strawberry, and clarified lime juice. Simple and gorgeous. Abby and I managed to snag the last available table on the patio, barely avoiding the sudden rainstorm, and settled right into this hip and cozy bar.

If you’re looking for a top-notch cocktail bar in Mexico City, you can’t beat these three. From the classics to the innovative, you’re sure to find something to savor. Don’t drink alcohol? There were plenty of non-alcoholic options available at all three cocktail bars. Mexico City is a can’t-miss destination for cocktail lovers. Which one of these do you want to visit? And, if you’ve been to Mexico City, what are some of your favorite bars or drinks?
