Nashville May 19-28 2021: a whole lotta work, a lotta food, a lotta fun
Today was: smoothie bowl + iced coffee, lots and lots of tech checks and rehearsals, tour of Bluebird Cafe (where we’re streaming a live singer songwriter night for the event), more rehearsals and tech checks, ramen delivery (!!) and a pretty crowded downtown on the walk home from the office to the hotel.
Vegan Cooking Portland 3/26
Roasted sweet potato & broccoli, sautéed shallot, kale & black beans, topped with nooch, Sriracha Garlic BBQ Sauce, EBTB seasoning, & avo
Today I woke up at 230am, read a little, worked until 930, took an hour nap, relaxed & attempted to work on a puzzle (thanks Laura!), made a new running playlist to motivate myself to run again, actually ran (first time since December 10th!), showered, worked some more, roasted some vegetables (and ate them all. I am SO HUNGRY since I’ve been back) and worked some more. Will try staying up past 9pm tonight.
Back home in Portland 3/22
Woke up early, made a strong cup of coffee with soy creamer (!), unpacked and did a load of laundry, went for a little masked walk over the St Johns Bridge, worked, and ate my version of the perfect snack – veggies and a Boca chicken patty. Haven’t napped, which means I’m about to fall asleep before it gets dark I’m sure.
Istanbul – SFO – PDX (with dogs!) 3/21
I was a flight volunteer from Istanbul to San Francisco for a Bay Area nonprofit. I brought FIVE (!) rescue dogs from Turkey to new owners! It was time intensive the week before and the process still seemed new and a little disorganized, but the woman running it in the US and the volunteer in Turkey are both awesome, and it was incredibly heartwarming to see these sweet rescue dogs all go to loving new homes! 🥰🥺🥰🥺 Would definitely be open to doing it again. And now, after 24+ hours, it sure feels good to be home in Portland.
Long day of walking and my last full day in Istanbul. Checked out the Grand Bazaar, ate my last French Fry Falafel from Falafel Zone, saw some cats, checked out Dolmabahçe Palace (WOW) and enjoyed weird variations on classic cocktails and a cute bar!
Today I had my Covid test at my hotel, worked while enjoying a quick Lebanese lunch outdoors, took a long walk, captured the fishermen (all men) on the Galata Bridge (one of my favorite sites) and snapped one more photo of my favorite tile wall in Beyoğlu.
Today I spent time at a random office about one hour drive outside Sultanahmet (I’m a flight volunteer for a nonprofit and bringing 5 rescue pups from Istanbul on my flight home Sunday. There is a lot of paperwork). Then I asked to be dropped off a 20 minute walk from my hotel for a little wander. I stopped for a coffee from Espresso Lab (almond milk latte – a treat!) and spent most of the rest of my day working from bed. And I managed to catch a cute glimpse of sunset from my window.
Working from a coffee shop, vegan Turkish breakfast, daily wander, St Patrick’s Day.
